Another outstanding title from Yuu Watase May 13, 2007

Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden. A prequel to the best selling manga, Fushigi Yugi, this series takes us back to the time of the first Priestess of the Four Gods - The Priestess of Genbu. Traveling back in time, Watase takes us to Japan's Taisho era. It's during this time that a tempestuous and tomboyish schoolgirl by the name of Takiko Okuda is about to deal with a family hardship. And destiny is set in motion...
While Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden doesn't bust down any manga barriers, it still manages to remain an intriguing and lighthearted read. With solid artwork, tried and true storylines, and quite a decent dose of humor, Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden manages to deliver in the entertainment department. Like most of Viz's latest shojo turnouts, it's about a buck cheaper (not a huge savings, but a savings nonetheless). For those of you looking for some easy enjoyment, look no further. For the rest of you looking for something crazy and unique, you may want to pass this one up.
