A fun, yet interesting Vampire story     Jun 30, 2008     by Loremaster

Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase Volume 1 is a well-produced manga. While humorous and cutesy, the story has its tense moments, and begins laying clues that in future volumes it will become more serious.

For now though, it is mainly a series of lighthearted encounters between Paranormal Cameraman Kouhei Mido and the strange young girl named Hazuki. While enjoyable and in some ways very creative, it doesn't stray terribly far from the modern-day fantasy formula. So if you're looking for something totally new and radically different, this probably isn't it. However, if you're like me and just enjoy a good story, I heartily recommend this one!

The artwork is very good, though certain aspects of it may annoy, such as the very thin look of Kouhei's hair, or the fact that the artist often randomly draws Hazuki as a Nekomimi, with no explanation as to why. Granted, I personally enjoy Nekomimi, but I am certain there are those who would not like to see cat ears randomly placed on a character in a panel, only for them to disappear in the next.

One final word of warning. This manga does contain brief scenes of female nudity. Nothing terribly bad or overly revealing, but if you are adverse to seeing such content I'd advise you tread carefully.

Loremaster also recommended: Neon Genesis: Evangelion Angelic Days, InuYasha, Chobits,
