Fun collection of stories about a beautiful family... Feb 29, 2008
by B.Anne
First of all, this is not in any way related to the Only the Ring Finger Knows series. It IS related to the Princess Princess series, which was also written by Mikiyo Tsuda, the author of this manga. The main character in this book, Akira, also appears in that series.
Akira has a complex about his family - all of them are so incredibly beautiful that people stare when they go out in public. All except Akira, who is a normal-looking young teenage boy.
The book is divided into several chapters, with each chapter focusing on a different member of the family. Akira - and how he learns to deal with his situation - is the first story. His older brother, who is idolized at school to the point that he has no close friends, is the focus of the second story. Akira's older sister has the same problem making friends at her school in the third story, and in the fourth, his younger sister - a shy, instrospective girl - learns how to communicate with the other kids at her own school. There's also a short chapter telling how the parents met, at the end of the book.
These are all quite funny, heart-warming stories and it's easy to care about these characters although their problems aren't anything an average person is likely to face!
The author, Mikyo Tsuda, also includes a comic written about her own life, and what happened to her when she had surgery for an eye injury. Interesting stuff, but inconsistent with the rest of the book.
One very cute note for sharp-eyed readers is that whenever a character is watching TV in this book, the scene on the TV is from one of the author's other books...
B.Anne also recommended: Day of Revolution, Princess Princess,
