In volume 48 of the show that only occasionally fabricates its emotional roller-coaster of a distilled network-like comedy, a big test at school causes Ataru to flirt, cheat, dress up as a girl and get trapped in a copy machine (but that’s just the beginning) in “Ataru Wants to Go on a Date! Operation Examination!” Sakura tries to cook up some passion while the boys simply cook up some outrageous lies in “Darling Told Me He Loves Me!” Onsen’s teaching instincts (and other unstable emotions) take him door-to-door in an effort to get to the root of his problems in “Hellish Home Visits! The Passion of the Teacher!” And after a classroom is destroyed, a group of students must meditate their sins away in an exclusive campus prison-hut in “Ran’s Humongous Doll of Destruction!”
