Mobile Fighter G-Gundam ran on Japanese TV as an anime series in 1994-5. The manga, written by Koichi Tokita, was serialized in Bom Bom Comics, and published in tankoubon form by Kodansha. G-Gundam is the first of three alternate Gundam worlds (Gundam Wing and Gundam X are the other two) created when Sunrise commisioned an entirely new and alternate Gundam universe to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Gundam franchise.
In the year FC (Future Century) 60, disputes between nations are settled in a tournament known as Gundam Fight. Each side picks its champion pilot, constructs a huge mechanical combat machine, and prepares to do battle.
