In Volume I, we are introduced to the lovely and charming robot DJ, Maico. Maico was designed by her creator Masudamasu to be the world's first artificially-intelligent radio personality. Despite skepticism from the other producers, Maico's show becomes quite popular and helps to revive Japan Broadcasting's slumping ratings. Maico's sudden fame forces her to deal with jealous broadcasters who want to discredit her, obsessive fans who want to see her naked, and two mysterious men who are trying to kill her. She also finds herself in the midst of a complicated love scheme involving her creator and a young hearthrob assistant director named Matsuo. Maico's own crush on Matsuo is tainted by the revelation that her actual function is to explore sensuality with humans - that she is, in effect, a sex droid.
