In the third volume of Kazan, the unlikely traveling companions Kazan, Fawna and Arbey find themselves lost in a deep canyon, hidden from sunlight and civilization. There, they meet a reclusive tribe which offers to take them in, and a young girl who shows them a dangerous way back to the surface.
Once they are free of the canyon, the weary troupe is delighted to come across a public hot spring. Their rest is short-lived, however, when Fawna’s innocent demonstration of her water powers shocks and terrifies the other bathers. It is revealed that the water demon who took Fawna’s friend Elsie is also responsible for many other kidnappings, and Kazan must convince the crowd – and himself – that Fawna is not the demon they seek.
Meanwhile, in Goldene, a mysterious woman has sent an elite squad of warriors to capture Fawna. These 'Messengers of Darkness' spring a trap for Fawna that results in Kazan being seriously wounded. In a fury, Fawna unleashes her full powers, creating a flood that she herself can barely control. Once again, Kazan and his friends’ fates are at the mercy of the elements.
