Very nice Oct 23, 2007 reviewed by Deidara_fangirl
I've always heard about Tamayo Akiyama's work being crappy, but Zyword appealed to me, just because of its lush cover art. I skimmed through it a bit. The artwork was awesome. I saw beautiful goddess-like vixens. Attractive male heroes. Some scenes of fighting, complete with spattered blood. I didn't know if I would like it or not, but I purchased it anyway. And when I read it, I found that it was actually quite easy for this book to catch my interest. It's a very interesting, and kinda phenomenal, manga. I don't care if many people may not like it, but I think it's very good. Very good indeed. Yeah, so the plot may be a bit muddy at a few times, but that's because it's very detailed. Ten bucks was worth spending on this manga.

Zyword Fan Review Oct 09, 2007 reviewed by Quark869
Welcome to Zyword, a world full of sorcery. When Araimel's kingdom is put under a spell, it's up to the two sole survivors to save the citizens before they perish in an eternal sleep! Tamayo Akiyama, a former member of CLAMP, has crafted a fantasy adventure that will leave readers spellbound!
I found Zyword to be a rather-no-an extraordinary read. A young teenage spell caster is the key to saving her kingdom from a curse, so she teams up with her childhood friend to venture from Araimel, and they battle it out against the forces that control Zyword. It's full of beautiful artwork, a well-developed story plot, and very good characters. It manages to lampoon everything about the genre, from dramatic battle scenery, to extraordinary spell summoning that appears from the blue. Zyword is a breathtaking shojo fantasy adventure with some sci-fi, action, and romance.

Sloppy mess Sep 18, 2007 reviewed by SeizureDog
Don't be fooled by the fact that Tamayo Akiyama was previously a member of Clamp; Zyword is nowhere near being on par with such works. The story is generic fantasy and completely forgettable, while the artwork is very cluttered and hard to focus on. On top of all this, the work seems to be the beginings of a series that never actually became a series, making this a major waste of time. Worst manga I've ever read. Most original-English-language manga are better than this pile of garbage.
