Paradise is no longer for Humans Jun 22, 2007 reviewed by Ruka
Wolves are now feared, and killed. The good part, they walk among us. They are able to be humans as well as wolves. A book thought of as legend tells of Wolves being the only ones to go to Paradise, led to it by the Lunar Flower.
Kiba, Tsume, Hige and Toboe are these such humans, the ones with the ability to turn to wolves. They have all gathered in one town because of the smell of the Lunar Flower. After meeting one another (some on rather bad terms) they soon joined up to find the Flower. In the same town a lab is there, inside is the Lunar Flower, or Cheza. The smell of wolf blood has awakened her from her sleep. The scientist are confused on how and why. Wolves died out many years ago.
Now then, Darcia, the bad guy of the series comes in and steals Cheza away. He had her first so he could go to Paradise with his love who has caught a disease given to her by a wolf. He kidnaps her and when she senses the wolves she escapes and the wolves run to meet her.
After they find her and they start on their journey to Paradise, they run into ones that fear them, ones that help them, and then Darcia. Who wants them dead.
This series will keep you on your toes wondering what will happen next. The anime and manga are both good, but both different. Anime goes more in depth and doesn't leave questions in your head, after awhile you get attached to the characters. The manga is rather confusing, but I would recommend seeing the anime first then watching the manga, then that way you could at least keep up. Or just watch the anime by itself and not worry about the manga. Either way, you'll get the whole story.

A starter for the anime. Aug 25, 2007 reviewed by Drunkensquirell
A complex Story in a short two volume manga. That's probably the easiest way to explain Wolf's Rain. The only way to get into story detail without spoiling is to say it is about four guys who are actually wolves looking for a girl who is actually a flower meant to send them to paradise. The series pretty much revolves around the four guys and sometimes around the girl. I am a HUGE wolf fan so this caught my attention immediately at my local bookstore. Once I got into the first volume I couldn't put it down and then went right out again and got the second. A very fast paced, sometimes a bit confusing, story. Most of the confusion is cleared up by the end. The only downfall I have heard about the manga is that it is very underdeveloped compared to the anime. To this I say maybe instead of paying for the pricier anime first, grab the two volumes of the manga and read it before fully purchasing the anime. I am certain anyone who loves the book will go out and get the anime as well.

Dissapointing to no end... Jun 22, 2007 reviewed by Eimajtl
After watching the anime and falling in love with it I moved to the mangas. With only two volumes the series falls way short of being anything, but lousy. The story is much different and too rushed. Two volumes is entirely too short to get anything from this.
I was VERY dissapointed with this. I wouldn't reccomend anyone read it unless you are extremely bored and it is free!

Wolf's Rain- a disappointment Aug 04, 2008 reviewed by Coldfission
After watching the series, I thought that the manga adaptation would be just as good. I was disappointed. I found that the manga's storyline went too fast for it's own good, and grasping the entire story in just two volumes hurt the story quite a bit. The first volume was fine, and understanding the story came easily enough; but the second volume was where I found the story to fall flat on its face. It went way too fast, leaving me wondering what the heck was going on and not really understanding what's happening in concern to the plot of the story. The plot just jumps to one plot device to another, with very little way for transition at all; for as we all know, a good story has good transitions between plot devices. I feel that the manga adaptation would have been much better off being at least four or five volumes long instead of the measly two I had to contend with. All in all, I would suggest to any fan of the Wolf's Rain series to just stick with the anime, and, if you insist on reading the manga, go to your nearest Barnes & Noble, sit down in a comfy chair, and simply read it instead of jumping the gun and buying it like I did, expecting it to be just as good as the anime.

Anime vs. Manga. Anime Wins. Aug 17, 2010 reviewed by Lauren Bedford
5 stars to the anime. 2 stars to the manga.
I saw the anime before I read the manga (luckily). I knew the plot and characters would not fit into two simple manga. They didn't do well to impress me either. It all seems very rushed through the books--and almost unpleasant manner.
The art is nice and I understand where they are coming from, but why not keep a series of 10 at least? There is A LOT to the characters and plot that is not very well explained in the 2-part manga.
I suppose for keepsake or fandom you would buy the manga, but I know that I didn't enjoy it very well--even though I wanted to. The anime wins. :(
