Evil, evil dudes and WTF!? Jun 16, 2008

I love the Japanese sense of humor. It has a sense of randomness which really appeals to my own sense of humor. I like reading a manga and saying, What the crap! after. The Law of Ueki did this for me. The whole concept is ridiculous, if you sit down and think about it. A bunch of individuals get together to choose a junior high student each, give them crazy superpowers, and then have them fight each other for the title of King of the Celestial World. Think about it... its like a bunch of rich Texas oil barons rounding up hoboes to race for some made up title like Master of the Universe or something. Hilarious! Not only that, but the powers that these individuals grant these children (c'mon... adults making children fight is warped) are so ridiculous. Ueki, the main character, has the talent to turn garbage into trees... wtf!? That alone intrigued me enough to buy the first volume.
The pace of this manga is comparable to Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. Its frantic and doesn't pause for much. And the villains are truly truly evil. A doctor with a golf club trying to kill a bunch of children with his car after he clubs them with said golf club is pure, unadulterated evil. Thats so violent! The main character, Ueki, is fun too. He's ultra lazy and nothing really phases him. He just reacts to whatever comes across his path. He's almost perfectly Zen. Like some wandering samurai, hippy who's into the environment. Loved this manga and highly recommend it. Awesome toilet reading!
