This manga is fantastic. The main character, Kyoko Mogami, has many levels to her and a great past that get's revealed. She goes through challenges to get to a goal after being scorned. Rivalys and friendships are made and the characters are insane. Its a must for any shojo lover.

A Unique Manga by the Author of Tokyo Crazy Paradise Jul 05, 2007 reviewed by Kimmi09
Kyoko has followed the love of her life, the rising pop star Sho, to the bustling busy city of Tokyo. If it's for Sho, Kyoko is willing to sacrifice herself by working overtime, avoiding makeup (which is costly), and even waiting on him hand and foot. Imagine her surprise and hurt when she finds him saying bad things about her like she's not womanly enough behind her bad. What's the only solution? -Revenge- Kyoko vows to Sho that she's going to beat him at his own game (showbiz) even with no experience or connections. So she dashes over to the company of Sho's rival, Ren, and miraculously is able to be an apprentice in the Love Me section. Along with the other new recruit, Moko, Kyoko must face tough odds and jeers in order to beat her now most-hated-person Sho. But why does Ren seem to think she can't make it? Is he actually helping her or dragging her down? Skip Beat is a great manga with a refreshingly new storyline. It's not everyday you find a story about a heroine going for revenge against a popstar. The art is awesome too! Must-read-now

Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned. Dec 13, 2008 reviewed by Kowa
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned is the perfect description for Mogami Kyoko. Skip Beat covers her endeavors to extract her revenge against the love of her life, who betrayed her and had no care about what became of her. (Which one of us has't had a similar situation and would love to beat the crap out of said boy/girl in any way shape or form ;D)
This manga is a breath of fresh air for Shojo lovers. Kyoko's personality is entertaining, and quite frankly, there has't been one such as her. Her drive and dedication is different from your typical shojo girls which is to get the guy, or do her best in a sport or some other innocent thing. Kyoko is all for taking down her old love and making him beg for mercy. She wants to see him suffer and will do anything for it. This is a brilliant twist in the story and her personality, which takes a 180 from the first chapter in the story. The guy in question is a famous singer, Kyoko enters a rival company to try and beat him at his game. Though she has no interest or experience in the entertainment business, she continues with her drive to take down Shoutaro. Her strength is acknowledged, but not in the way we'd expect and she starts off in a very interesting sub group of the company, where she is the only employee and has to do some jobs where others would just turn up their noses. Along the way, she discovers a passion for acting and forms relationships with people she meets. One of them is with a top Actor Tsuruga Ren, who does not agree with her reason for being in the business. She also gets a drive to want to beat Ren who looks down on her inspiration. The two cross paths often and begin to understand each other gradually. And there's a very interesting twist for these two, which you can only find out by reading :)
Watching the situations and the outcomes that Kyoko experiences are entertaining, there wasn't a time where I didn't laugh, cry, or get some sort of emotion out of them. This is a brilliant pick and I think all should give it a try. You'll love it.

can't wait for volume 8! Jul 05, 2007 reviewed by Unagi Pocky (Skip Beat Vol. 07)
OMG! this volume was SOOOOO good, that I read it 5 times within the first 48hours I had it (and still read 4 other mangas inbetween....it helped to be working 1/2 days at work). Ok, here I go trying not to spoil anything too good.... // this volume concludes the scene we last saw in volume 6 where Ren is suprised by how well Kyoko's acting has gotten.... // Ren Tsuruga is HOT in the volume...if you're a Ren fan, there are melt-your-heart Ren pictures (mostly head/chest up shots....) // Also, because of the commercial, Sho is now aware of Kyoko, and is trying to figure out if it's the Kyoko he knew. // Also, Ren's assisant Yashira shows back up (if any Yashira fans are interested). // And finally, more fun Kyoko is beautiful and Kyoko is weird scenes and pictures.... (semi-spoiler, very vague: you have to love the kick...I cheered!)

So good... Jul 08, 2007 reviewed by 4getdapast
Well, if you have read Tokyo Crazy Paradise and loved it, this series is a thousand time better.... I love her art and storyline, it's cute and funny at the same time. It's not as mushy mushy like the other romance series, if u have not read this yet, you are really missing out, and trust me, the story just get more interesting and complicated as it progresses ^___^ ...
btw, i'm rooting for Ren ... hope Kyoko and Ren can get together at the end.

Amazing Feb 04, 2009 reviewed by Anna (Skip Beat Vol. 17)
Great book, very good in transition from the last book, and great little pieces of cute fluff. Any more and it would have been over the top.

Really funny : ) Jan 06, 2009 reviewed by Sahara2512
Skip Beat is real fun to read. Kyoko's 'grudge demons' are really funny. It makes me laugh all the time....she's full of fun and energy and her chemistry with Ren Tsuruga is tops! He always makes her nervous when she feels that her is mad with her. I especially like the parts when her 'demons' appear when sho's name is mentioned. Lots of laughs and the drawings are real good as well.
It has a good mixture of comedy and romance which makes it fun to read. I LOVE IT!!!!! :)

great series Jul 28, 2008 reviewed by hana
I didn't really like tokyo crazy paradise, but skip beat has become my absolute favorite manga. I think fans of TCP will still love this series, but there's also more to go on for us hardcore shojo fans. There's enough pretty boys to satisfy but it's so much more than that- it has an amazing storyline and at times has me laughing out loud. I would recommend this series to anyone.
