A good yaoi story Dec 03, 2008
reviewed by Zilla
Though this is definitely not for children I think this is a series a true yaoi fan can get into. It goes into a tale of forbidden love between student and teacher. A good series for those 18+ who love a little mild drama.

The art in Passion is sketchy at best. The characters are very angular with girly hair styles (just look at the covers that is what everything looks like). I really didn’t care for it. It really is bizarre.
Next it is the story. The first two vol. flow quite well together, but still are not spectacular. It follows the classic student-teacher relationship (seme/uke) with the usual we’re both men and you’re my student stress. I also didn’t like the rape scene that began the work. What made this work interesting was how the teacher character used their relationship to get the student motivated. It was cute and funny. Also the work wrapped up with a sweet side story that left you satisfied with the relationship.
Then came vol 3. It was published long after vol. 2 and I only bought it on a whim. It was a bad whim. Vol. 3’s story introduces new characters that are unnecessary, but are designed to create tension. In the end, however, the tension really fizzles out and ends up diluting the story. Then, for some reason, the teacher become EXTREMELY insecure about the relationship and begins to act like a jealous girlfriend. Plus there is a subplot about buying matching rings that just feels dumb. I realize that yaoi is written by girls for girls, but does that mean that the boys in story have to act like girls? That always ruins the story for me.
If you want to give Passion a try I’d say check out 1 & 2 (especially 2), but ignore 3. In fact, pretend it never existed.

I was kind of iffy on getting Passion, but I decided to buy one book and see how I liked it. I got to the end, and I was hitting myself--I should have bought the others too! This series is addictive. The relationship between Shima and Hikaru is sweet, but passionate, and amazing. A great plot.
