Wow! I never imagined that I would enjoy reading a manga series about parasites that come to earth to invade peoplesEbodies in order to eat other people. Yes, there is gore throughout the series, but eventually it is overshadowed by a fantastic storyline. If you can get past the first couple of volumes you will see this storyline develop. I really cannot tell you much about it otherwise I would spoil it for you. I can say that this manga series has action, drama, romance, horror, and even humor (mostly dark and sarcastic). I did find myself chuckling from time to time during the series.

If I had to gripe about anything it would be a couple of gory scenes. These scenes were quite grotesque and disturbing. I understood why the author did this, but it was still gross. Also, I felt the series needed to end sooner than it did. In other words, I felt the ending dragged a bit. I did not feel that this took away from the series I just would have preferred it to end sooner.

Most everyone (anyone 16 or older) should give this manga a try. I do not think many people will be disappointed.

Also, a side note. I read the Japanese version of this manga. Thus, there are a couple of things different from the Tokyo Pop version.

These differences will NOT affect the storyline.

First, the main character's name is Shinji in the Japanese version but in the Tokyo Pop version it is Shinichi.

Second, the main character has a parasite invade his right in the Japanese version, but in the Tokyo Pop version the parasite invades his left hand.

Today I had the opportunity to look at the Del Rey version and noticed that they restored the manga to its original state. It is a very nice production by Del Rey. They have great notes in the back of each manga as well.
