Evangelion: The Shoujo Edition Jun 26, 2007 reviewed by TheRoyalFamily
When I first got excited for this series, it was because I thought it was going to be a manga of the best part of Evangelion - that three-minute segment towards the end of the last episode that shows what NGE would have been like without the evas or angels or any of that mess. And this series DOES start out that way: Asuka waking Shinji, the two rushing to school and running into some strange girl with toast, who later turns out to be the new transfer student, Rei - who then accuses poor Shinji of being a pervert, etc. Unfortunately, there are no references to bologna ponies or any such stuff.
What is also unfortunate is that the relation to that particular segment of the series ends there, and the manga becomes more like the series, with angels and NERV's and evas.
However, it is not the gloomy story of the show. Really, the main plot is about the characters' feelings - especially those of Asuka and Rei (and Kaworu, of all people). The series seems to me to be what Evangelion would be like if it were written by a shoujo manga-ka, and not a seriously depressed weird man.

Human Instrumentality Project End Results.... Sep 13, 2007 reviewed by Toushiro41
I want to say the series is somewhat like the outcome of all the characters after the Human Instrumentality Project was used. All of the characters are in a more lighter, brighter mood where they're not afraid to get close to one another and get hurt like in the original series. Nerv and the angels barely play a part in the series, it's more about the characters feelings. It's still a great series to read, it has comedy, romance and a bit of action but not much. It's a nice cute manga to read when you need a pick me up^^.

Enjoyable romance, not good for Mechs Feb 18, 2009 reviewed by Mel
I have to be one of the few in the Western world that didn't enjoy Neon Genesis Evangelion. I respect it for what it is, and understand the massive fanbase it has. But the story, artwork and music just don't do it for me. Angelic Days is for people like me. So you didn't enjoy it, but saw the potential it had? Wanted to a bit more character development and a lot less mind screwing crap? Angelic days has all that, you get to see the characters evolve, move through life as relatively normal (and less whimpy) people. And Shinji's much easier to stomach in this version. All in all a great, if quick, Shoujo Manga. Not really something for those who really enjoyed the original series, there's much less action and adventure, and more a 'school days' feel.

The alternate story for Evangelion! Aug 06, 2008 reviewed by rulo7
If you did not like the first Evangelion, and wished things should have gone differently. Then you should consider buying Angelic Days. It's an alternate story from the original Evangelion, this new version of the series, deals with the character's stories and relationships. Trust me, you're going to love it^^
