Negima! 10 years old wizard, but certainly not for kids! May 22, 2007 reviewed by Bagleman
At first glance, it’s easy to associate Negima! with Harry Potter. You take one boy, place him in a magical academy, then send him on a test to prove his abilities. Instead of saving a kingdom or slaying a dragon, 10-year-old Negi is sent to Japan to teach English, and at an all-girls school to boot!
Like Love Hina, Negima should delight many of a fan of Akamatsu’s work. While the main idea sounds cute and comical, Negima is definitely best left to older teens. Panty shots and undressing scenes abound, taking every opportunity to show off the developed anatomy of the all-girl school. There’s even a consistent reason for it - Negi has an unusual allergy that causes him to sneeze, summoning a strong gust of wind…which just happens to blow of the clothing of any nearby female. At first all this makes it easy to assume that there’s nothing more to the manga than that, but that isn’t the case.
The artwork for Negima is rather impressive. While the characters can be cutesy at times, the overall look to things is more detailed. With such large settings, there are many little things that deserve a second or third look. The students are also rather sharp and details, each noticeably different than every other. When you add spells and fights, Negima is easily the type of story that needs a second read, if only to catch the little things missed the first time around.
For anyone that enjoyed Love Hina, Negima is definitely worth a read. At times a romantic comedy, at others a magic adventure, the story holds something for almost anyone. If you shy away from a bit of exposed flesh, Negima is definitely something best avoided. That aside, it is full of comedic situations and sudden bouts of serious reflection. With 31 girls to choose from, it is almost impossible not to find a favorite character, or at least someone with a familiar personality. While a bit predictable at times, Negima still holds a unique spot in the long line of romantic comedies, making it a worthwhile read.

5 Starsss Jul 29, 2008 reviewed by drew
All I can say is wow, I am not totally finished with the series, but I am on book 11 and I love the series a whole lot. After watching the anime I had to buy the books and I was surprised they were even better than the anime. This series is about a 10 year old boy named Negi who is practicing to become a Master Magi or a Magician of sorts. With this he is sent to teach english at an all girl school. He gets involved in all kinds of crazy situations and the girls fall for him one after another. I laugh everytime I read this book because of all the perverted humor, but it also has a serious romanic side which I enjoy. Not reccomended for kids but all my friends love this series. Buy It!

Interesting but Akamatsu can do better Mar 25, 2008 reviewed by Kieli
When I first started this series, I was really interested in this Harry Potter-type story with a major harem twist. However, as I moved into Volumes 16, 17 and beyond, it soon became clear that this was going to be another Love Hine harem manga that was going nowhere fast. I loved a lot of the characters but Negi's overestimation of his own skills and incessant whining about not being a burden to anyone have pushed patience to its limits. It could be a far better manga if Akamatsu weren't so intent on having every single one of his female characters fall for Negi in some way or other.

Akamatsu, you old dog you! Sep 13, 2007 reviewed by broknlegend
This series is so cool! its comedy, action, fan service, and did I mention funny? its not for kids though, lots of nudity and panty shots. Don't blow it off yet, its a genuine love comedy with 31 detailed characters each unique in their own way. With action scenes like crazy, this series is a winner! ^-^

Harry Potter has a manga? Aug 31, 2007 reviewed by Ricardo Peña
You might notice that this manga revolves around the use of magic, but don´t let it fool you, that´s just the very basic idea of this title... Think it as a mix between comedy, some fan service and magic and that´s it, you got what this title is all about. And BTW this manga has a insane number of female characters, and all of them are pretty well drawn.

Another Great Series By Ken Akamatsu Jul 25, 2007 reviewed by anime_luver29
This manga is very good and while it may not make my top 5, it is definitely worth reading. The artwork is good and it has a very good storyline. There are two downsides to this manga: having nudity in it and having so many characters. While the nudity scenes in this manga make it funny, many girls won't read it (or Love Hina) because of it. Guys would normally be thought to read this only for it by some girls, and its really a big downside to the series. Having so many characters can be a good thing in some ways, but it makes it hard for the reader to remember everyone without having to reread the series. Other than this though, i would definitely recommend this series since its really funny and enjoyable, and also has an amazing storyline.
