Monster Feb 29, 2008
reviewed by Crenshinibon
Monster is quite possibly the most complex and psychologically astute manga ever written. The plot is ingenious, the characters are all filled with depth and realism, and Urasawa makes virtually no mistakes in executing any of it. His drawing style is much more serious than the industry standard, accurately depicting facial feature and expressions throughout the work. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants some intellectual stimulation along with their entertainment, rather than just raw action or cliched romances.

A masterwork Aug 17, 2010

Master surgeon Kenzo Tenma saves a child's life... and it turns out that the child is a monster! Monster is the story of a falsly accused doctor hunting down the wicked one whom he himself saved in an operation. It's a lenghty series with many twists and turns, and it remains engaging volume to volume. Following the characters through the dramatic, horrible and terrifying experiences is enjoyable, and the characters are great ones. Tenma is an immediately likable protagonist, and Johan is a fittingly creepy psychopath of a villain with a mysterious past. The supporting cast is likable, hated, respectable, frustrating, a role for every emotion to ensure your gears are constantly turning. Even at 18 volumes the manga never dips in quality and it never fails to hold your interest. Truly this is one of the greatest mangas ever written.
