Black Knight is story of love between social classes which also explores the questions of what it means to be a knight protecting his lord, duty vs. desire, and how to navigate the political intrigues of the time. Jeremy/Chris is a prince trying to conform to what’s expected of him while still remaining true to his love for Zeke. The story has many twists and turns with a constant threat of separation of the two which really highlights their true feelings for one another. Also, the bonus story Deadly Sin is gorgeous and the extra story showing how Chris’s parents met and his young father’s struggles is very well done.

The art in this manga has beautiful detail and depth but it sometimes becomes difficult to differentiate many of the secondary characters. It would also be nice if we were given a map showing the different countries and family tree. But overall, this is an excellent addition to the yaoi and fantasy genres.
