Hayate The Combat Butler Synopsis: Hayate Ayasaki is a 16-year-old boy who has been supporting himself since childhood by working a variety of part-time jobs. His parents, on the other hand, are degenerate gamblers who don't work at all and generate 150 million yen in debt. To pay this debt, Hayate's parents sell him as an organ donor to the yakuza - an idea Hayate isn't too crazy about, so he decides to kidnap someone and ransom them for 150 million yen. The girl he attempts to kidnap, though, misinterprets Hayate's intentions, and thinks that he is confessing his love for her. The girl, Negi Sanzenin, turns out to be the only daughter of a super wealthy family. Negi buys Hayate from the yakuza and to pay her back, Hayate agrees to be her butler. And, at his current salary, it will take him 40 years to pay Negi back!

Amazing Series Jul 25, 2007 reviewed by anime_luver29
This series is very funny and definitely worth reading. It's very popular in Japan, and it has really good artwork. The characters are loveable, and this is all-around an amazing series. It;s worth the 5 stars I give it.

Doesn't really build on issue 1 Aug 29, 2010 reviewed by sir fernando (Hayate The Combat Butler Vol. 02)
Hayate doesn't really seem like it's going anywhere characterwise in this second volume; more amusing-yet-slightly-disturbing episodes as Hayate gets himself settled into life in the mansion, with its whacked-out cast of inhabitants. It's not a bad little manga, but I've been spoiled by my recent reading, I guess; I want some better-etched characters than I've got here. I'll give it a few more volumes and see if it improves any.
