Gerard & Jacques Synopsis: As far as romantic first encounters go, meeting in a high-class brothel isn’t typical. Gerard becomes Jacques’ first and last patron, when he buys freedom for the boy after sleeping with him. However, Gerard gives Jacques a challenge—can a spoiled child of the nobility survive on his own and earn his living without selling his body? Jacques rises to the challenge, and ends up as Gerard’s houseboy, doing manual labor. Gradually he begins to see that Gerard is not quite the savage he first thought, but will this revelation lead to something more?

Oh those silly Frenchman Jul 05, 2007 reviewed by AnimeG0ddess
Gerard & Jacques takes place around the time of the French Revolution. Some poor aristocrat's son who just lost his parents gets sold to a male brothel but soon gets adopted after his first night with a man. The boy grows up really smart and really capable and really, really in love with the man that adopts him. The man that adopted him makes his money writing hot selling lesbian novels. The majority of the story is about that man's tragic life, how he gets the scar on his eye, the woman he truly loved, and the new love he finds with the boy (who grows to be a man) he takes in. There's a lot of tragedy in this series, but there's a lot of humor too. It's a well-rounded story with a deep base in character development. This is probably the most serious series I've read so far by Yoshinaga-sensei, but still worth every moment of it!

Yaoi story that's TOTALLY worth the money Jun 22, 2007 reviewed by CisquexDarwin4ever
If you're looking for a series that's addictive and has a unique plot look no further. The plot line is different than any other book I have read. It's one of those books that you can't put down, no matter what is going on around you. The characters aren't the typical semi and uke and you can't help but go awww while reading. For an M rated book it's a pretty tame one so first time readers won't be overly disturbed. I will definitly be purchasing the next volumes.

Not Enough Character, Too Much Smut Sep 25, 2008 reviewed by Raisa
I was disappointed with this one. After reading the plot summary I thought that I'd give this one ago (especially because I adore the artist) but I was sad to find that the book was mostly sex and not a lot of character development with even less romance. After reading this one, I'm a more jaded fangirl than I was before. On the other hand, I might grow into it, only time will tell. And yes, the art is still fantastic.

Excellent. Not an average sex based yaoi. Jul 28, 2008 reviewed by Kuro-chan
As I said in my title, this series and other works by the author I've read is refreshing. This piece is set in the past, and research into the period in time is apparent. The flow was elegant and it wasn't fluff either. Character's were well established and development into them was below the surface, but still present. This series is realistic in many ways.
