Fun but Don't Expect Much Dec 06, 2007

I admit that I was heistant with this work. I was worried that it was another high school love story/soap opera work. And it is a little.
The main character of the story has gone through so many boyfriends that the other girls have deemed her a slut. While this usually means that the girl is easy it seems that the main character is not and is just a victim of rumors. It fact she is quite sweet making her a classic shojo heroine.
The plot is somewhat formulatic. I think I can guess where this story is going but I'm not quite sure since the author tends to throw in loops here and there. The artwork is good, but nothing extremely notable. It follows classic shojo style - cute girls and good looking guys. The only exception is that the heroine's love interest is rather rugged, features facial hair, and is a bit of a delinquent.
What makes this work interesting is how messed up and imperfect the characters are. One girl is continually lying and spreading rumors. The class president is always mean to other people without meaning to. The main character is a doormat and knows it. Their interactions seem quite real for high school, which makes the volume a page turner. The only aspect I found a real disappointment was the author's creation of the Rainbow group. It is very stereotypical of gay men and is rather dumb. Luckily it isn't important to the work.
I have to say that this work deserves a chance. With other high school works such as Happy Hustle High out there, I can say that this one is far better and more entertaining
