Worth it completely Oct 18, 2007 reviewed by Heatheraroonie (Fushigi Yuugi Vol. 01 - 18 Complete Manga Set)
At first, I was a little hesitant to spend so much money - fushigi yuugi is actually my first manga I've invested in, although I have seen the anime - but in the end, the price, and the buyer rewards section of justmanga, won me over. I must say that I am SO happy with my choice! The manga itself is beautifully drawn and simply a wonderful story. The only three things I found a little off putting, was the fact 1 of the books was back ordered for a few days and the tracking on the shipping was poor; also, for some strange reason Vol.16 is shorter spine-hieght wise than all the others. All in all, I would recommend the series for first time manga readers and the entire set for anyone as crazy about the suzaku 7 as I am!

the sweetes series I've ever read Oct 09, 2007 reviewed by SarahLawrence4faces
Yuu Watase starts to tell us the story about Miaka, a sweet, witty and outgoing girl who along with her best friend, enters unexpectadly inside a book called The Univers of the Four Gods.
The story is funny and moving and the artwork is amazing, but the best part are the characters that you'll meet within the pages. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who loves a good love and fantasy stories.

Another outstanding title from Yuu Watase May 13, 2007 reviewed by Bagleman (Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden Vol. 01)
Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden. A prequel to the best selling manga, Fushigi Yugi, this series takes us back to the time of the first Priestess of the Four Gods - The Priestess of Genbu. Traveling back in time, Watase takes us to Japan's Taisho era. It's during this time that a tempestuous and tomboyish schoolgirl by the name of Takiko Okuda is about to deal with a family hardship. And destiny is set in motion...
While Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden doesn't bust down any manga barriers, it still manages to remain an intriguing and lighthearted read. With solid artwork, tried and true storylines, and quite a decent dose of humor, Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden manages to deliver in the entertainment department. Like most of Viz's latest shojo turnouts, it's about a buck cheaper (not a huge savings, but a savings nonetheless). For those of you looking for some easy enjoyment, look no further. For the rest of you looking for something crazy and unique, you may want to pass this one up.

Absolutely Engaging Jun 30, 2008 reviewed by Luna-Bella
Fushigi Yuugi is beyond anything you would expect in a manga! Fushigi Yuugi has got it all-love, humor, action, betrail, and unfortunate deaths...The characters are innovative and heart warming (Miaka definately takes the cake)...your heart will race in an uncontrollable excitement...Its a graphic novel that is strongly recommended to buy as a complete set, because its excruciatingly hard to stop and wait for the next book to befall your hands.

Yu Watase is one of my heros! This manga is amazing! Jun 19, 2008 reviewed by amusmental (Julie)
Fushigi Yugi is a wonderful story! Miaka is a great character! She's a normal girl without being boring. Not a barbie-dimensioned lovely-genius-girl, she still remains pretty and kind in her own way and energetic, with her own concerns, which are refreshingly not ALL about romance or non-typical concerns (I adore romance manga, but I get annoyed by characters who think about nothing except the need for a boyfriend). She worries about things that everyone gets stressed about; grades, for instance. And she loves eating. I found it really easy to relate to her. Other characters in the series were (mostly; I still kinda think Yui's a jerk) really likable or entertaining, too. The storyline was wonderful and well-thought-out. The artwork is typically wonderful of Yu Watase. There are definitely sad moments where you'll actually cry, but at the same time there are parts where you'll laugh out loud. It's really fun. This is definitely an all-time favorite! Please go check it out!
