Full Metal Alchemist Synopsis: Edward Elric changed the night he trapped his younger brother’s spirit in the unfeeling steel of an ancient suit of armor. That night, Edward and Alphonse exploited the clandestine science of Alchemy to attempt the unthinkable- resurrect their dead mother. They failed, unleashing an alchemic reaction that ripped their bodies apart. Four years later, an expanding evil lurks behind the false face of freedom. With rebellion crushed, the State turns its eye to increasing its grip on the people by seizing a legendary artifact that would ensure complete domination and plunge the land into State controlled darkness. Now a lone State Alchemist combs the country for a single stone that could amplify his Alchemy. If successful he would control a power permitting him to restore the precious things that were lost. But it would also allow the State Military to senselessly obliterate countless more. The Alchemist is soon faced with the harsh truth that the power to create is but a breath away from the power to destroy, and that with each birth, death must follow. It is this burden that the young Alchemist bears. His name is Edward Elric. And he seeks the Philosopher’s Stone.

Awesome sauce! Jul 12, 2007 reviewed by hitachiin_love (FullMetal Alchemist Vol. 01)
This volume starts off slow for getting you to the main important plots and is only composed of two events. I won't go into detail, but you meet Ed and Al they solve the whole Father Cornello thing and the terrorst attack on the train to Central. Then you are introduced to Roy Mustang. (Whom is hot)

Pretty soft for something full metal Jul 12, 2007 reviewed by hitachiin_love (Fullmetal Alchemist: Alphonse Elric Pillow)
I have the big round yellow Edward pillow from this collection and I've had it since last year. Mine kinda started to rip at the seam, since this is made the same way, it may do the same. But I've ate in bed and spilled and dirtied mine a little and the stains come right out.

I love this one! Jul 12, 2007 reviewed by hitachiin_love (FullMetal Alchemist Vol. 01)
This is currently in my top three favorite animes. I have this DVD and most of the rest of the series taped on VHS. The content in this DVD is really slow on getting you into the series and introducing a lot of main characters. Through the first 4 episodes, there's only one main conflict or two.

FullAction Manga!!! Jan 06, 2009 reviewed by Eddierodmem666@aol.com
This series is just absolutley amazing. At first i thought it was stupid because all i saw was a blonde hair kid with a talking root having a kid voice. I regret not getting into the series when it first came out because the second i gave it a chance i was emersed into a fantasy world of great plot, visuals, chracters, and fight scenes. FullMetal Alchemist is a jam packed manga where two brothers who are on the search for the philosopher stone in order to correct thier sins. This story takes a journey through trust, deception, and bravery. A gret manga and anime it is one f my favorites.

Greatest Manga EVER Jul 07, 2007 reviewed by Psyco Meowmix
The manga is great! The anime is only losly based on the manga, as you gety father into the story they deverge and change, but if you liked the anime you'll love the manga too. It may be different but its also longer! Great art with a great story line makes an unfrogetable tale. Throw in some insightful words of wisdom and you got a done deal.

How much do you know about alchemy?... Feb 26, 2008 reviewed by Kakashi's Kunoichi (FullMetal Alchemist Vol. 01)
Rated: TV PG Running Time: 105 minutes
Alchemy… A mysterious science that borders on the supernatural, and is both revered and feared in the world in which it exists… Skilled alchemists wield this power for both good and evil in this magnificent series created by Arakawa Hiromu. Join Edward Elric and his brother Alphonse on all of their adventures, both fun and frightening, in one of the most entertaining and thought provoking anime I’ve seen thus far. This show has a lot going for it… Fantastic animation, wonderful voice acting, terrific music and an exciting storyline that’s filled with action, humor and drama. You really can’t lose on this one in my opinion. Fullmetal Alchemist Volume One: The Curse contains the following episodes:
1. Those Who Challenge The Sun 2. Body of the Sanctioned 3. Mother 4. A Forger’s Love It also has some great extras, like: textless songs, production art, Japanese commercials, an image gallery, character profiles and trailers! The concept behind Fullmetal Alchemist is magnificent, and you can’t help but find at least one character to love. Bottom Line: Fullmetal Alchemist Volume One: The Curse is a fantastic DVD that belongs in any anime collection!

Ultimate FMA Anime Image collection Oct 23, 2007 reviewed by Suikodeniac (Art of FullMetal Alchemist (Anime Version))
A lot of the wallpapers you see online of FMA are actually images from this collection, as well as a lot I have never seen online. The images are high quality and the pages are glossy, and the pictures are a mix of original material and scenes direct from the anime.
If you're a fan of the series or interested in animation it's a good book to own, at the end of the book there's an interview with Bones (the animation company also responsible for Wolf's Rain) and a bit about making the series, colouring the scenes, the differences between the manga and anime, and character and story development.
It was well worth getting even if the shipping is a lot out the USA, part of this is due to the hardcover weight, and it's a high quality book all round.

Art of Full-metal Alchemist's creator. Oct 23, 2007 reviewed by Suikodeniac (Fullmetal Alchemist, Art of)
This is a collection of a lot of the covers and chapter scenes you see scaled down in the actual manga, only larger or in colour. Like the other art collections I've seen of this series, the book itself is high quality, and hardcover, which adds a bit to the shipping cost but is worth getting anyway.
Hiromu Arakawa is not only a talented manga artist, but is capable of working with various coloured art media (specifically paint) something you really can't see from the tiny black and white representations of these same pictures you get in the manga, but which shows beautifully in this art collection.
To add to it, there are various notes about most of the pictures, what she was doing at the time or how she'd planned it, which make interesting reading, as well as an extended note from her at the end. Since the book spans several years worth of art it's also nice to see how her style has changed or developed. As an art student and fan of FMA I enjoyed this book a lot, and it's one I'll keep on my shelf and keep looking back at for years to come.

For Fun - Not a Must Have Dec 06, 2007 reviewed by Obsessed (FullMetal Alchemist: Profiles Vol. 01)
This is a profile book for the world of FMA. It includes profiles of the characters, geography, a summary of events up to chapter 28, an overview of the FMA novels, and introductions/explanations on alchemy, the military, and homunculi (I guessed on spelling since they are referred to as the seven deadly sins in the book). For a new fan to the manga (Sorry not much on the anime. It fact the anime is just beginning at the original printing of the book.) or an FMA otaku this may be enough for you. Remember the anime and the manga differ widely in some events (such as who killed Winry's parents).
Also in the book are funny details such as finding things hidden in the manga. Did you know that there is a mysterious man that appear repeatedly, or that mount Fuji appears on a map, or any other of the details given by the author. There are also sketches, four panel round-robin manga and interviews with the author and staff. Lastly, there is a bonus manga the Blind Alchemist at the end of the book. It is worth reading, but is available online or just read it in the store if you want. There is also a cult quiz on FMA, but there was a mistake in the book. Q10 is mislabeled and there is no answer to Q11. It's not hard to figure out the right answer (or at least for me) especially since the answers are hidden within the pages of the book. Read carefully.
I loved the extras and the interviews. Some of them were just so funny. I also loved the footnotes telling the reader what Star Wars was and who is Sean Connery! I know that it is originally published in Japan, but to read it in English and in the United States makes it funny. Or it was late at night and everything was funny - I'm not sure. Anyway, it’s a fun book to have, but I wouldn't put it on my must have list.

so good it's unexplainable Oct 08, 2008 reviewed by milla
this series is so good that you can't describe it in words. the only word that comes to mind when i'm reading or watching this is unbelieveable i'm such a fan of this show that i even have the ENTIRE fist episode writen down with a few flaws. but even though i love this show to death i still catch bits of conversations that i've never heared before. (i really don't know why) my favorite part in the anime&manga are the death seens. it's a strange addiction thing. this series is full of it. (p.s: i'm not an old woman! i'm tweleve years old and i'm a writer. even though i may sound like i'm old, I'M NOT!)

MUST read and watch Aug 23, 2008 reviewed by Ejmantle
The manga and anime both are excellent. The anime follows the manga for a while, but strays and ends differently, but it is still fun seeing anything FMA. I'm mostly in love with the manga. There is NEVER a dull moment in this series or even a hint of it repeating itself. The story just keeps going and the best part is that you never know where it'll end up. The twists in this series are pretty intense. The characters, story, and art all superb. You'll fall in love with foe and friend in this series as it progresses.

A great series to own Feb 29, 2008 reviewed by Kyrislian
To start things off, we're introduced to the two brothers (Al and Eric) in the beginning. The first chapter's brilliant in delivering the kind of action, humor, suspense and drama that builds up over the series.
Unlike some other manga, this one does a great job in maintaining the qualities I mention above. The plot is awesome, and there are a great many twists and turns that makes this really hard to put down.
The characters are exceptional - you really get to enjoy the depth of most, if not all, of them and their relationships with each other; from the sibling dependence and trust of the two brothers, the attitude of Winry towards them where, though she knows they care very much for her, she still feels as though there is a wall between them which will never be breached. Even the subtle relationship between Roy, the Flame alchemist, and his bodyguard Riza Hawkeye.
I have to say though that after Chapter 28, the introduction of the people from Shin seems to stretch the character capacity of the story. It feels as though there are way too many characters to remember, and in this regard character depth becomes more superficial.
Overall though, this is a great series to collect for your manga library.

Not my preferred ending, but excellent still Nov 29, 2007 reviewed by Brittany (Full Metal Alchemist Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa)
If you've watched the series or read the manga, this movie is definitely not something to pass by. I believe it's a crucial, FINAL ending to the series and it suits it well. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie, and I also absolutely love how history is incorporated into it. (World War II) I have to say it wasn't exactly the ending I was hoping for, although some may like it, but this movie is still a great finalization to such a wonderful series.
