NOT the anime! Jun 26, 2007
reviewed by TheRoyalFamily
I would like to point out, again, that this is not the same Eureka Seven you watched. If you want a manga with that same exact story...go watch the show again. The manga is quite different.
This is not to say that this is a bad thing, as evidenced by the rating I gave it. It is, again, just different. If it was trying to be a straight retelling of the anime's story in manga form, it would be pretty bad - and many people, it seems, think that is the case.
But it's not. This is an adaptation of the Eureka Seven story, much in the same way the various Disney movies are adaptations of the original stories (and, if you are into gaming, the way the Disney stories are again adapted in the Kingdom Hearts series). However, unlike those Disney adaptations, the Eureka Seven does a good job. As such, many things from the anime are changed, or omitted. Some of the changes are not for the best, but many of the changes make the series better than a straight retelling would (especially because of lack of space to tell the story).
My main gripe is that our favorite married couple from the series is replaced with some no-name pilot who just happens to be angry Holland left the military. Other than that major issue, the changes, in my opinion, actually enhance the story. The main one is that Anemone (and Dominic, by extension) are much more involved in the manga than the anime (in fact, Anemone is on more volume covers than the title character!). There is another really big change from the series, that I believe makes the characters much more real - but that would be a major spoiler, so you all have to read it to find out!
Also, the whole noodle caper is gone. Good riddance.
Really, this manga needs to be read. If you don't like the changes made, at least you will gain a greater appreciation for the show, and how things happened the way they did. However, I think that, if one comes in with an open mind, there is quite a bit to be appreciated in the manga.
