The Best May 29, 2007
reviewed by Sam. B
Yami was the reason I got interested in shonen-ai/yaoi in general. Though it has very subtle shonen-ai, it's very cute. The story is very mysterious and mystical, and it has a timeless feel--you want to keep on reading! Getting to the last book made me a little sad, acutally, knowing that there wasn't anymore!

Descendants of Darkness, at a glance. Nov 13, 2007
reviewed by Skippy
Descendants of Darkness (Yami No Matsui) has the perfect balance of comedy and tragedy. It's themes and plot-lines are often very dark and supernatural but it is brought to life by eccentric and down right hilarious characters.
It revolves around the existence of shinigami (Gods of Death), who in this story belong to a detective agency in the 'Ministery of Hades' to investigate lost or misplaced souls and guide them to the afterlife. Main character Tsuzuki Asato, is a shinigami with 70 years experience, who is a seniour partner in the second division, seems light and bubbly on the outside, but he hides many dark secrets, which are to be discovered after he meets up with his new partner Hisoka Kurosaki, a young boy who died under mysterious circumstances. The story is largely concerned with the relationships and secrets held by the main characters, but there is always something new and exciting to be seen within the sub-plot too.
Yoko Matsushita lends her own personallity to the novel well, with humourous footnotes and insights into the writting and characters, it is a delight to read, well researched and has very deep thoughts and ideas, with many references to poetry. The artwork and character design is beautifuland I found the whole thing held great suspence and mystery, with a kind of quirky humour that is really addictive. There are some racy parts in there too for the yoai fans and cast of beautifully drawn pretty-boys with attitude what more could you want? Thumbs up all around, Highly recommended!

Cute Jul 05, 2007

A cute series, with very cute characters. It is somewhat shonen-ai/yaoi, but the fact that it is isn't very obvious at all.
