I couldn't stop laughing May 26, 2007
reviewed by demonic_kitten (Demon Diary Vol. 01)
This comic is so amazing, it's hilarious. If you want a good laugh just pick up the first volume of Demon Diary you don't even have to read the rest of the series which is more serious than the first book. It's about a young demon who just found out he is a demon lord. He has no clue what he is doing and not capable of learning how to be tactful. He has an advisor that does the best he can but its not enough in the first volume. As before stated the series gets more serious later on when the young lord learns proper demon lord ways and such. Overall a great series that I highly recommend. It is slighily yaoi but nothing is really emphasized or shown.

How Dare You Mock Me, Vermin. Oct 25, 2007

This series is hilarious. It will keep you laughing and hold your attention.
In all seriousness of a manga, it has a good plot, though a bit generic. Story-wise, it really thrilled me and I enjoyed reading the huge panels of character interaction. It introduced characters one-after-another who end up living with Raenef, the main character, as this lovable girl-like man attempts to become the Demon Lord with the help of a handsome demon, Eclipse.
This story has a touch of shounen ai (boy love) that will make any fangirl scream, if they can spot the scenes.
The only flaw I found with this series is the large panels. It consisted sometimes of three panels on a page during a fight scene, especially in the last two manga. It seems to just span the story out, so the creator could fill the space of the pages.
Overall, it is a nice work. It's a mostly light manga with hints of dark themes, but if the reader is looking for a nice, short read consisting of humor, demons, and bishounen (attractive men), this title would be the one.

It's kind of a comedy! :) Vol. 1 Aug 17, 2010

Demon Diary definitely tricked me. I picked it up thinking I would get a serious story of a demon--but ended up being more entertaining than I would have imagined! Don't get me wrong, it does have a serious plot and they do have twists that are not expected.
(This story does imply some affectionate bonding between tutor and student/demon lord--but I wouldn't even quite considerate to be shounen-ai or yaoi.)
Note for Volume 1: Demon Diary also has two (completely unrelated) short stories at the end of Demon Diary Volume One. Crystal Heart and Terra. Possibly LeeChiHyong's or Kara's advertisement for other stories/art--but otherwise unrelated to the story of Demon Diary.

The end is near..., Nov 12, 2008

Raenef IV is back, and he seems to know how to get Raenef's personality back from the devious book. But what will be the price of his assistance? Demon Diary remains a great deal of fun, even if it's been somewhat doctored for American audiences (judging by all reports, anyhow). The series is winding to a close, but remains strong.

I love it! Jul 21, 2008

Demon Diary is grate and you don’t have to worry about 39 or more books because this funny Series is just a 7 book set so it also give you room on your bookshelf for that much longer series you are working on. Like most funny Series it gets a bit more serous torts the I think 2 or so books. So come join the adventure as Lord Raenef learns to become a fears Demon Lord and unlocks his true Potential. Come wallow in the miseries of his Mentor and friend Eclipse as he tries desperately to turn Lord and Master Raenef into a Proper Demon Lord with out both him and his master becoming the next Laughing stocks. Although I have to say that is easier said then done on poor Eclipse’s part sense nothing seems to be working and every time he turns around Lord Raenef has broken yet another Demon Lord Rule. By sparing the life of a Knight by the name Ervtis and allowing the next High Cleric of the Temple Rasea named Chris to stay with them. However if that is not enough to get you to want to read it then the graphics are not halve be either. I think any one would like it.

First volume is worth reading: author change for volume 2 Dec 27, 2007
reviewed by Margaret
If you look at the books themselves or the amazon listing you will see that the author of the first book is not the same person who wrote volumes 2-7. Volume 1 is great, but the tone changes quite a bit after that and I didn't enjoy the rest of the series anywhere as much as I enjoyed the first volume. The artist is the same for all the volumes and the art is excellent in all volumes.
I also wanted to add that while it is classified as yaoi, it is as tame as it could be. I just thought they were good friends, but my brother pointed out that one of them blushes once and didn't think he would have if they were just friends. That is how tame it is.
