Interesting Vampire work Dec 13, 2008

Vampire Bund (meaning an isolated island for political asylum) is a rather interesting new vampire work. The plot is something rather unexplored – a separate haven for vampires which in within driving distance of humans. Moreover I have never heard of fangless vampires until this work. The art is pretty but well I’ll get to that in a moment. Plus, I love the tie in to the original vampire work – Dracula.
The main character is Mina Tepes who is a conglomerate of Vlad Tepes (aka Dracula) and Mina the female which Dracula “loved”. (Stalked whatever) At this point the series I don’t know if her lineage is further explored or not, but one cannot help but think that somehow Dracula may make an appearance. Mina is an excellent vampire to see move because she is so wonderful calculating. She isn’t weepy or weak. Her only downfall is that – well the artist has a thing for drawing her almost completely nude on nearly panel she appears on. Normally I don’t mind nudity, but Mina appears to be a child – so it’s kinda creepy. Like I should be a dirty old man with a Loli fetish. Moreover, she is placed in scenes with a sexual undertone and that is creepy as well. Granted the reader knows that she is an old vampire that hasn’t grown in the physical sense – but . . .
This is the only downside to the work. Vampires in this work range just like humans. Meaning that they are extremely violent and ugly to beautiful and caring. A fact that I rather enjoy. The plot moves perfectly from scene to scene and doesn’t contain any confusing layouts or speech bubbles. The plot is well driven and keeps the reader turning page after page.
So if you can get past the Loli issue this is a wonderful work with an excellent take on vampires.

A very interesting tale.... Jul 28, 2008
reviewed by Kieli
of a vampire princess, Mina Tepes, (who is far older than she looks) coming to Japan to establish a vampire kingdom. Things seem to be going well on the surface but there is a rumble of dissention from both the old guard and the new ranks of vampires with Mina caught in the middle! The storytelling is a bit odd and there IS mature content, so be advised (i.e. nudity and swearing) but it's an enjoyable enough read.
Kieli also recommended: Death Note, Vampire Hunter D, Rosario to Vampire,
