Hack and Slash, and So Much More! Jun 15, 2007 reviewed by boukie.bree
Action packed with a great story that moves it along. The manga really comes into its own after the first few volumes. It’s an incredibly addicting series. The only downside is the wait for the next volume.

The Best Hidden Manga Jun 16, 2007 reviewed by Shin
Overshadowed by others such as Bleach, One Piece, And Naruto. By none the less. Just as good if not better. Claire is a Claymore...A name of the ones who slay Yoma. The Silver Eyed Witches who make a pact with the devil to fight off Yoma(According to the villagers). They become part Yoma to be specific. With that they are able to fight on par with them and save people. Claymore is a fantastic novel. Unlike many others were they are afraid to kill of characters or really advance the plot too much. Claymore has no problem with either. Its not nearly as slow moving as Bleach or Naruto for instance. And the fighting is a lot more intense. The story itself is deepen whoven in the manga. And just will keep getting better every single type. My only complaint is really the absentance of a supporting cast. They have it but they phase out very quick. Then come back in later. So its just claire for most of the time. Which is great but if she had a few more it would have been been better. Since they have some really remarkable other Claymores that you just want to see more off

Great plot, cool action Jun 07, 2007 reviewed by AnimeG0ddess
The premise of Claymore is a world terrorized by demons called Yoma. There is a group of female warriors called Claymores, named for the swords they carry and nicknamed Silver-eyed Witches (You find out why there are only female Claymores later in the series). Claymores are half human-half Yoma hybrids and therefore strong enough to defeat Yomas and protect humans. This is the story of Clare, a Claymore with a tragic past who saves a human boy from a Yoma and he ends up tagging alongside her during her journey. It turns out she's not all that strong amongst Claymores as the story introduces stronger allies and stronger Yoma as well. The story is very intriguing in that not all is what they appear to be. There is awesome action involving super-powered swordfights against Yoma and some cool power ups as the series progresses. The characters are cool, but there isn't really a big buildup of character development. Plot and action are this series strong points.

Claymore May 30, 2007 reviewed by Tsujoi
In a world where Youma hide among humans to feed off their flesh, there is only one thing that can save humanity. They are called Claymores, the silver eyed witches. Claymores are female Humans that have taken in Youma flesh to gain incredible power, but are condemned to fight their Youma impulses to keep their humanity intact.
With each passing volume the story only gets better and better. It's quite action packed and does a good job in getting the reader to care about the characters it introduces.

Claymore: Fantastic art for a fantastic series Jun 08, 2007 reviewed by Kazuma Azuma
Claymore is a great series with a lot of sword to sword action, and who doesn't like a sword fight now and again. The first four volumes don't even compare to what happens next, so if you find yourself a bit bored toward volume four, give number five a chance, it can only get better, right.

Near Perfect Aug 17, 2010 reviewed by Manga Addict
Claymore is a unique action-packed adventure story that I would recommend to any action/adventure fan. It is filled with awesome monsters and warriors. The artwork is phenomenal. The story is filled with unexpected plot twists that will make your mouth hang wide open with astonishment. I love this series but there are some downsides. It is a very very very fast read. You can finish each volume in 20-30 minutes. Also, the volumes take a very long time to get released in English. But other than that I would definitely recommend Claymore because it is an action-packed adventure filled with multiple developed heroines and enemies and crazy plot twists.
Manga Addict also recommended: Bleach is another very good sword based action/adventure manga.,

Claymore Review Oct 10, 2008 reviewed by ChocoMilkTea
Claymore is a Shounen, Action, Adventure anime in a Fantasy, Medieval setting. The story basically revolves around a specific Claymore Clare and her companion Raki as she goes from town to town, slaying monsters known as Yoma.
From the beginning the story is very easy to follow. You have Claymores (strong female warriors) and it is the job of these Claymores to slay the Yoma. The story basically follows Clare as she travels to slay these Yoma, which get increasingly difficult to defeat as the story goes on. As a character Clare is developed so well that your opinion of her will change constantly throughout the series. Knowing her past before she became a Claymore and her current self makes it hard to believe that those two are the same person. What's disappointing is that some of the other main characters are not as developed as Clare but at least they produced good enough results. Raki being the main supporting character is really the only annoying character and doesn't really bring much to the story. As the story goes on it changes completely from the original hunt and kill Yoma, onto a more interesting and compelling storyline with amazing battles.
The fight sequences are just amazing and what helps it is the superb animation quality, thanks to Madhouse (also producer of Death Note). A lot of detail is put into every aspect of animation, with amazing lighting effects, detailed backgrounds and realistic character models. It is great to see all this kept during the bloody fight sequences however I do feel some corners are cut which just loses some of its essence (e.g. when the arms move so fast it does the typical DBZ speed attacking effect).
The music is fantastic with a magnificent orchestral score mixed in with some wicked bass and rockin' tunes. It's perfect in setting the right atmosphere; drama or action, it does well in both however there are times, mostly during fights, that the music can get a little messy.
Overall this ends up becoming an interesting anime that actually brings something new to the saturated shounen anime market. It manages to stay true to the manga storyline throughout however the story ends up moving at a very fast pace but the benefit of this is that every episode counts and there isn't any screen time wasted by: pointless flashback, training episodes, prolong deaths, etc. It's a shame that the anime deviated from the manga slightly near the end, which is bad news to manga fans and it means there's less chance for it continuing.

Cutting tale Jun 30, 2007 reviewed by Jomichka
It's an interesting concept. I particularly like the concept of the artwork. The different styles of architecture are done nicely in my opinion. From simple hut to Gothic style cathedral. It also doesn't waste very much time in between action, totally packed with it. Its good though that the whole story isn't all hack and slash. Theres the human aspect with emotions and such, and the yoma part too not that that gets much more than a claymore to it ^.^.
