A little erotic and eerie May 30, 2007
reviewed by annalee
I've bought all the Category: Freak books that have been released so far, and while I can't say that it's the best read out there, it's pretty good itself. There's a lot of humour in the plot of the story - that's pretty dark itself - and the funny moments seem to come when you least suspect.
We have a chic with a split personality, a normal geeky human, a gazing eyeball, a rabbit with a never-ceasing hunger, and an immortal stand. The characters may sound a little weird at the moment, but honestly, it's not so bad when you read the story.
Mind you, there are some hinted moments of sexual behavior, though they have yet to indulge (in front of the readers, anyway) so if you're not into that kind of stuff - or you don't like any hint of guy-on-guy action - I don't think you'd like this book too much. Looking beyond that though, this is a very entertaining novel. You get to view the darkness of the human heart, while learning more and more about the world portrayed in the novel.
It's definitely worth a shot.

Category Freaks Jul 30, 2007

If you're a reader who fancies the macabre and out of the ordinary, Category Freaks is a must-read for you. The characters are a refreshing change of pace from the norm, starting out as little more than mysterious entities, but a little more is revealed about them with each volume. I loved the first three and can't wait for the fourth! Kudos Gokakurim Sakurako!
