A Dark Anthology That Questions The Heart Jul 25, 2007
reviewed by DamageCtrl
It sounds like a typical shoujo manga: a forbidden love between immortal siblings is discovered and the two are punished. However, Venus is hung upside for eternity under the ocean as her body rots; her only hope is for her beloved brother Deimos to find, kill, and bring to her the body of Minako, a human teen who is Venus’ spitting image, in order for Venus to posses the girl’s body. And though the now demon Deimos still loves his sister, he finds himself slowly falling for the innocent and kind-hearted Minako. While that is the plot, a classic example of a supernatural love triangle, the darker stories within the anthology are a twist of horror. Tragedies befall the various characters, ranging from living vampires to avenging spirits, but options are always given. The question is what option would you pick and do you really know what it will cost you? With a more retro art style, thought provoking scenarios, and the lingering question of whether love is as good and true as it is believed, “Bride of Deimos” is a step into a world where even the purest heart can become twisted. If you can get your hands on this manga, the quick reads of the stories with are worth your time.
