Azumanga Daioh
Genre:
Comedy
Azumanga Daioh Synopsis: It's not manga, it's Azumanga (and it's smart, fun and totally addictive)! Created by the iconoclastic Kiyohiko Azuma (hence the name), Azumanga Daioh is strongly character driven, telling the story of a group of high-school girls and their hilarious daily tribulations.
A hilarious high-school comedy: terrific characters with huge appeal to middle- and high-school age readers of both sexes!
Strongly episodic four-panel designs make this an outstanding introduction to the manga artform for new readers.
Published in authentic Japanese right-to-left format.

Azumanga daioh=Classic Jul 16, 2007 reviewed by Kazuma Azuma
Azumanga daioh is one of the funniest things I have ever read. It's the story of a group of six high school girls until they graduate and go off to college. Anyone will fall in love with the characters instantly, there isn't one boring soul in the Azumanga world. Of the group of six there's the cute little Chiyo-chan, the spacey Osaka, the hyperactive Tomo, the cool but cat loving Sakaki, the athletic Kagura, and the smart but a little chubby Yomi. Not only is the manga terrific, but so is the anime, anyone wants a good laugh should check out Azumanga Daioh.

TERRIBLE Jul 12, 2007 reviewed by hitachiin_love (Azumanga Daioh Vol. 01)
This is one of the most boring books I've ever read in my years of reading manga. There was no really obvious plot and it was composed of meaningless short stories. It wasn't even in the typical manga format. I wonder if the anime is any better.

Azumanga Daioh! Jun 02, 2007 reviewed by Aly
This series is full of random hilarity. I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard over a comic strip before. At times I don’t understand what they’re getting at, but mostly it’s hilarious.

Take a bunch of very different high school girls, toss in a couple of teachers who were recently school girls themselves, spice with a 10 year old genius, and you have a recipe for hilarity. While I do not like the 4-panel strip format this is in, there is still enough continuity to hold it together. Certainly it doesn't get very deep, but really, you will be laughing too hard to care.

Hilarious Nov 01, 2007 reviewed by Kura
This is the funniest, most random series I've ever read/watched. The characters' randomness and nativity will have you laughing. Osaka and her out-of-it-ness will have you giggling, Chiyo's cuteness will be too much and times, Tomo's energy can practically be felt, you will be thankful for the 'normalness' of Yomi, Sakaki's obsessions are always amusing, Yukari-sensei's and Minamo-sensei's relationship dynamics are hilarious. This is a great comedy.

Absolutely funny! Aug 04, 2008 reviewed by Gothjet
You'll laugh cry, and say how can a cat be that little girl's father?. Full of adventures with high school girls that remind you of your friends! I reccomend this to anyone! It's so sad when they graduate but you'll fall for the characters!

Hilarious and Heart Warming Aug 17, 2010 reviewed by Sket
Put together six high school girls of all different types into the room of a crazy teacher; and you get pure gold. Azumanga Daioh isn't a manga for someone who enjoys a good plot line, but if you want some laughs and enjoy high-school slice of life manga, I'd definately recommend it.
It follows the lives of Sakaki, a tall mysterious girl who is really shy caring and cat loving, Chiyo, a small cute girl who was bumped up from elementary to high school, Yomi, the weight-watching voice of reason for Tomo, Tomo, the crazy loose-cannon girl whose lacking in common sense, Osaka, the transfer student with a unique way of thinking, and Kagura, the wild athelete determined to be Sakaki's rival, as they go through their three years of high school.
Aside from their daily lives in the classroom, there's also summer outings to Chiyo's summer house, atheletic and culture festivals, vacation joys and woes, and of course the graduation exams. It had me laughing from beginning to end, and again whenever I come back to it. Definately worth five-stars.

So funny, so cute, so creative! Dec 17, 2008 reviewed by Brianne
I loved this. I feel in love with it! After I read one, I couldn't put the next volume down. It was amazing. The characters were adorable and the story was addicting. It was really random at some times, a lot like the manga Lucky Star. But all in all, it was a classic high school comedy!

Plot? what plot? Dec 03, 2008 reviewed by tachiri2617
it's amazing who a simple story of fallowing a group of the most unique group of girls as they go through high school can be. you'll laugh, you'll cry ...(more then likely form laughing), and you'll find it's the simple things in life you can enjoy.
