Another Yu Watase Marvel! Jun 19, 2007 reviewed by Eimajtl
Alice 19th is an amazingly, wonderful story. It is short, being only 7 volumes, but it is a classic. Yu Watase really knows how to hit a girl right in the heart and pull her in.
The story of Alice and her endeavors to get her sister back after a horrible accident leave you one the endge of your seat wanting to read each chapter faster and faster.
After reading only the first few pages you'll be hooked.

A way with Words May 29, 2007 reviewed by Koneko
I love this series. Another fine manga by Yuu Watase. Action, Drama, crisscross Romance, and Suspense! Ah! And of course the comedy pops up in unexpected places to ease the oh so serious moments. Watase-sensei's art style graces the pages and the ocassional funny stuff really gets me going. ^^

Alice 19th Review Oct 11, 2008 reviewed by ChocoMilkTea
I enjoyed reading Alice 19th very much. The only genre I could think of giving this is Drama, so if you love a good romance then this is the manga for you!
~Story~
I thought the story was pretty good. It certainly wasn't the most amazing manga I've ever read, but it was quite good. This manga obviously has a strong moral about words, and how you should use them for kindness and not rudeness. It follows a girl, whose sister has fallen to the emotional darkness of her soul, and needs to be rescued, and the story progresses from there. Also, relationships develop and become quite apparent. I think the reason I liked this so much was because it didn't drag on and on about how they love each other and how they need to get together like some manga does. The storyline was always progressing and that kept me entertained, not bored out of my mind.
~Art~
The art was pretty good; it wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing, either. Yu Watase did a nice job portraying the characters and what their current emotion was. Also, when you see a shot of the entire city, it's very pretty and I think the author did a wonderful job. However, if you're looking for manga just based on the art, you might not want to choose Alice 19th, depending on your taste.
~Characters~
I loved the characters for this manga! There was obvious progression of the characters' love interests and traits. I think the author chose perfect characters for this story, as all the characters fit nicely with the storyline. There is Alice, the younger sister who starts out wary of her actions and shy; Mayura, the older sister who is very pretty and gets what she wants when she wants it; Kyo, the handsome male protagonist who helps Alice throughout the story; Nyozeka, the bunny Lotis master that accompanies Alice and Kyo on their mission; Frey, who is a flirty Lotis master that came from Norway to help Alice and Kyo. There are also a few other characters that accompany them towards the end of the story.
~
Overall, I gave this manga a 4 because I thought Yu Watase did a nice job with the story and the romance between the characters. It was an enjoyable manga and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new, shoujo-ish romance manga to read.

Beautiful Words In the Midst of a Wonderland Oct 30, 2007 reviewed by TheReviewer
This manga is probably one that people can relate to. Alice, the main character, is a shy person who cannot come out and say the words she wants to say the most. She is so human. Her sister, on the otherhand, who is a big part in Alice's life, seems to be able to summon the courage Alice doesn't have, and this leads to the plot of the story and the love and hate between the sisters.
As a story line, it is also able to related to. Minus the bits of spells and monster created from chaos, words can weight and can affect surroundings and people close to our lives. That's the message Yu Watase is trying to send to the world with this piece.
As for artwork, Yu Watase is brilliant as ever. It's cute and alluring with dark themes inside the detailed images. She's genius! Tying together love, actual events, and character growth. If you're a fan of her, then this is definite must-buy. You will not be disappointed.

Power of words Oct 16, 2007 reviewed by Bunnii
Yuu Watase did a wonderful job telling yet another story of love, betrayal, relationships (family, siblings, friends), and courage. She creatively tackle issues regarding our inner heart, the little darkness we all have inside us, and created an alternative world of what our inner heart might look like. Because the central theme of this series is the power of words, the life lessons are a bit cliche and a bit slow. Regardless it's a good read. Very enjoyable.

She did it again! Aug 28, 2007 reviewed by Silarial
Yuu Watase really is the master when it comes to shoujo manga. Again, her inventive skills have lead us on another journey, where words can have the most power in the world. Not shy of a heroine with the courage to change herself, and a few love-triangle squabbles along the way, this was another fantastic story from our favorite mangaka. The depth of her characters is truly amazing, and the comedic relief from the tension-filled storyline really compliments off all the elements of this story. This was an excellent manga, although not quite as epic as her most known series, Fushigi Yuugi, this is definitely a must-have series.

down the rabbit hole? Aug 23, 2007 reviewed by tachiri2617
Alice 19th is an interesting manga, good example of yuu watese. (one of my starting manga writter/artist)
alice saves a rabbit and ends up keeping it as a pet, but finds out its not just any little bunny. it teaches alice that cirtain words have power and that she must learn these words to become a lotis master. haveing this new power awakend (i guess that's the best tirm to use, read if you want to know what i mean)she acidently puts her sister's life in danger. Kyaa! can she use her new abilities to save her and the others around her, will she have the power to say the words of power for the boy she loves?
....o.k so i'm being overly enthusiastic about this rewive thing, but i'm trying verry hard not to give away the story. at most i have volume ones ....manybe only first 2 chapters worth in that discription.
like all yuu watese manga (at least the ones i've read) theres twist turns and loop-de-loops, if you've read anything else by her you'll notice that kyo (male lead) is similar in looks, but not entirely in personallity. for one he has a past no one knows about, and for two he's not a money grubber. so i like him much better ^_^.
the art is as with most her works wonderful, but this has a bit darker theme to it. yes pretty men are good, but this manga seems more on how words are not always as good, or kind, so the art refects that in it's proper places, but it's not always serious. chibis are cute and fun, and do make there way in, so theres that good bit of humor for comic releif.
the story is good and original, but it's the famous yuu watese cut offs that will keep you reading to the next volume. a nice short read (concidering other mangas *cough cough* ranma *cough cough*)of 7 mangas.
overall, good, not the greatest, but a nice addition to a rmb (reality manga bookself).

Another Yuu Oct 29, 2008 reviewed by Mel
Whilst Alice 19th is beautiful to read, that's all I could put the points in for. If you've read Yuu's work before, it was much a rehash of the same themes. Weak willed heroines finding their inner strength, love triagles, betrayl from someone close to the heroine etc etc. It was like reading fushigi/Absolute boyfriend all over again. Still very pretty, easy enough to read if you're after something light and girly, which is sometimes all you want.

Alice 19th *boink* Jul 28, 2008 reviewed by Star_Angel_Genesis
Alice 19th is yet again another great story from Yu Watase. I love what she did with this one. Take a moment to think about it: The actual power of the things we say ACTUALLY having power. Makes ya wanna watch it a little eh? ^_-. Positive and Negative words and emotions and the power they hold. Family, Friends, Trust, Love, Loyalty meets Rivalrys (sp O.o), enemys, tragic pasts and a very surprising end. This series is probably my favorite Yu Watase so far. It explores just so many real life emotions and twists it into a funky alive and wonderland meets a dramatic/ adventure/ at one or two poits freeky anime series. It did have one or two points where I was like Yu....is this you?...you grew...horns....in your artwork...nice.. Very happy with the way she switched it up at a few points. I really felt I could put myself in in the main characters shoes. And so, I highly recomend his series to anyone with a little bounce to their beat or in need of one ^_^.
