... any fan of the movie must read the manga. It goes much further into the story and involves the characters in ways not seen in the movie. I would highly reccomend this series to anyone who watched Akira.
After reading this you'll gain a greater appreciation of this groundbreaking series.

When I first read this I was so distracted by the unhumanly detailed backgrounds that I hardly even payed attention to the plot. Once I bothered, however, there was a plot, and a good one at that. It is interesting, fast paced, and a great read.
It seemed like it pioneered so many ideas, so I'm surprised it hasn't been copied more. It still seems original.

Simply put, Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira is a masterpiece. The Pioneer release includes new English and Japanese dubs for the re-release of this beautiful film. This is one must have if you're a hardcore otaku, or if you're just a film buff.
